David Austin
Hi, David here, thanks for finding your way to my bio! I have been registered as a psychologist for over 20 years, and have experience in private, non-government, and education settings. I have worked extensively with adolescents and young adults, and families experiencing parenting challenges, relationship breakdown and issues associated with re-partnering.
I have a strong interest in helping people who are experiencing anxiety or the impacts of trauma, whether recent or historical. I also get a lot of satisfaction helping people with insomnia, including through my work as part of a multi-disciplinary expert team. In addition to providing therapy to older adolescents and young adults, as I advance in years I am increasingly appreciating the wisdom of older adults and the challenges they face, and enjoy working therapeutically with them.
It is very important to me to work in partnership with my clients as they deal with transitions and change, across the lifespan. As part of this collaborative approach, I have an active therapy style, encouraging in-session skills practice where appropriate, so that clients can begin making immediate changes in their daily lives. I appreciate that it’s often difficult to seek help for mental wellbeing, so I try to offer an experience of therapy that is as straightforward and non-medicalised as possible.
My therapeutic work draws from a range of evidence-based treatments, with the goal of providing a very personalised response to your needs. I therefore seek and welcome feedback as we work together to ensure our work remains ‘on track’.
I prefer to provide therapy face-to-face, but can provide telehealth options if you prefer.
