PsychSessions is a locally owned and operated private psychology service. We have two psychology clinics, one on the edge of Canberra City adjacent to the Australian National University, and the other in Deakin adjacent to the John James Medical Centre. Our aim is to provide effective high quality psychological treatment, and where appropriate, do so in collaboration with other relevant health services. Towards this end, our Deakin clinic is co-located within the Canberra Sleep Clinic with whom we work closely to provide integrated wholistic care for people with insomnia and other sleep disorders.

Clinical Psychologist, Director
Dr John Brown established PsychSessions in 2005 to create opportunities in the private sector for highly trained psychologists to provide effective evidence-based interdisciplinary treatments for mental health conditions in a supportive and collaborative environment. As Director, this continues to be his principal focus and a central part of the life and mission of PsychSessions.
Dr Brown worked as a Clinical Psychologist at PsychSessions for over a decade. He completed his training as a psychologist at the Australian National University (ANU) as part of a PhD (Clinical Psychology) degree focusing on the treatment of depression, anxiety and eating disorders, as well as Motivational Interviewing used for helping people to overcome addiction and impulse control problems. John later developed a strong interest in the drug-free treatment of sleeping problems. In addition to clinical practice, John conducted research at the ANU regarding the long-term effects of recreational drugs on brain functioning, as well as the impacts of lifestyle factors on sleep.
Unfortunately, due to the onset of a chronic health condition, he ceased providing therapy to clients in early 2017 but continues as our Director supported by our management team and other support staff.
