Social Anxiety Group Program If you have difficulty dealing with social situations… If interacting with others makes you feel nervous or unwell… You may be suffering from Social Anxiety. Social anxiety (or social phobia) involves a marked and persistent fear of social situations. Typically, social anxiety makes it very difficult for sufferers to socialise, make friends, find a partner, keep their job, or get promoted at work. In the very serious cases it can result in severe social isolation - which is a major risk factor for developing or exacerbating a range of other psychological and medical disorders such as depression, drug and alcohol problems, as well as poor basic self-care. It often gets worse overtime unless effectively treated. Several things are required to overcome social anxiety, including knowing how anxiety works and how to change it. However, once you know those things you have to somehow go out and do it, which can be very hard, especially since you can't take your psychologist with you! This is where group programs come in. Group therapy overcomes the limitations of individual therapy in the treatment of social anxiety. Our groups provide a controlled environment for you to practice new skills in communicating with others and overcoming anxiety and your psychologist is right there to help! Furthermore, at PsychSessions our group programs are cheaper than individual therapy! Details: Fortnightly at 6pm. Come to as many as few as your like. Come every fortnight or every now and then, it doesn't matter. $77 per session payable in advance (a Medicare rebate of $30.45 may be available for eligible clients with a GP Mental Heath Care Plan or referred by a psychiatrist). Registration: Ring PsychSessions on (02) 6247 5485. |
